About me

Hi, thanks again for visiting my website. Just in case anyone’s interested, here’s a little bit about myself…

I’ve been based in Chester for about 20 years now, but grew up in North Wales, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Clwydian Hills. Growing up on the slopes of Moel Famau, I formed a real affinity for nature. I like nothing better than getting out early on a hike with my camera gear and trying and capture the early morning light filling the valleys.

I was always interested in photography. I never really got to practice it as a hobby when I was younger, mainly because it’s so expensive. I got my first SLR film camera when I was working in Japan, and that’s where I started experimenting with things like depth of field and manual shutter speeds.

After many years of using this wonderful camera, I bit the bullet and got a digital SLR camera. I missed the satisfying click of the shutter and the whirr of winding on the film. However, the upside was that I could finally control the editing process, and a whole new world opened up…

I find the creative process deeply rewarding and can spend hours working on the raw file, which is the digital equivalent of a film negative, and making subtle adjustments to light, shadow and colour. I think in many ways photography shares much in common with painting, particularly now that we have so many new tools at our disposal.

Although I naturally gravitated towards landscapes, I now enjoy dabbling with all genres of photography and have a real passion for such diverse genres as street photography and floral photography.

Photography is an austere and blazing poetry of the real.
